Summary: Characters…

Well, we have a few out here, and they can look the same. One that we have comes up most or less singly, and with a bulbose stipe, where the other comes up in groups with narrow joined stipes. Also the single ones here tend to have a reddish brown cap, where the others are brown to yellow-brown.

The single ones when light colored and thin capped we were calling them A. gallica, and the thicker capped more red ones with yellow veil on the margin we were calling A. sinapina. Comments from T. Volk seem that in the west we don’t really get A. gallica, and both are most probably A. sinapina.

Summary: distinguishing character

Hi Douglas,

I’m wondering how you decided on A. sinapina over one of the other honey mushrooms. They all still look pretty much the same to me.
