Psilocybe subcubensis is a synonym of P. cubensis. It’s a species with a rather wide range of spore sizes. All of the sequences I have seen for P. cubensis are identical, indicating that P. subcubensis is the same. It’s a species from Asia which has spread to many subtropical areas. I haven’t seen any evidence that the spore size is different based on location.

I updated the location for Jalapa, Tabasco, Mexico to reflect the state of Tabasco. P. cubensis is common in Tabasco, but it is also found in Xalapa, Veracruz….Let me know if this was actually found in Veracruz.

Jalapa, Tabasco or Xalapa, Veracruz? The map pin for the location is the latter, but the location name is the former.

The measurement of the spores for this species is (9.9-) 11-13 (-14) x 7.7-8, subhexagonal in face view, thick walled in accord with Guzmán (1983).
