35°12’38.36"N, 85°54’0.40"W, el. 587 m, Beckwith’s Point Trail.

Substrates and habitats:
Dotson Point Trail and Beckwith’s Point Trail: growing about 2 m above the ground on the trunk of a tree under oak-dominated eastern deciduous hardwood forest at the edge of the western escarpment of the Cumberland Plateau.
Shake Rag Hollow: growing on a downed tree branch, about 1 m long and 3 cm in diameter, found on the forest floor, in an oak and tulip-poplar cove forest at the top of a canyon on the western rim of the Cumberland Plateau.

Characterization: corticolous lichen with
(1) jumbled lobes and folds
(2) numerous apothecia in a range of sizes
(3) numerous black pycnidia imbedded in thallus surfaces
(4) jet black undersurface
(5) forked rhizines

Identification: The specimen in these photos from Shake Rag Hollow was identified by Gary Perlmutter at the UNC Herbarium as Hypotrachyna livida.
