Observation: Hygrocybe miniata (Fr.) P. Kumm. (1994)

When: 2007-01-08
Collection location: Howarth Park, Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co., California, USA [Click for map]
Who: Debbie Drechsler (debdrex)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I have found numerous tiny red/orange hygrocybes like this one all over this park. This one was in duff under black oak, madrone and bay. The pileus measures 14 mm across and the total length is 4 cm. The pileus was pretty dry but I suspect that was a result of the lack of rain. Usually they’re moist but not viscid. The gills are attached and slightly decurrent.
