Observation: Alboleptonia sericella (Fr.) Largent & R.G. Benedict (2453)

When: 2007-02-14
Collection location: Howarth Park, Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co., California, USA [Click for map]
Who: Debbie Drechsler (debdrex)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I couldn’t get a very accurate photo of this one. It’s under Douglas fir and bay. No odor. What doesn’t show very well is the delicate patterning on the pileus. The umbo is quite white blossoming to a pinkish beige color which then fades again at the margin which is not quite as white as the umbo. The colored area consists of pale dash-like marks going top to bottom. The pileus surface is moist but not viscid. The stipe is somewhat translucent and a more pearly white than the pileus. The gills have a slight pinkish cast (a little too strong in the photo). The pileus is 33 mm across and the overall height is 5.5 cm. Thanks, Darvin—-the descriptions I found were right on the mark!
