Notes: I’m not sure I like this id, but I don’t know what else they can be. They pretty much look like B. appendiculatus, except they are small, out of season (no biggy), the pores turn blue but very slowly, and the stipes are half red. Usually these are big and the pores blue quickly.
The flesh is bright yellow, and blues pretty quickly, much quicker than the pores.
The taste is very mild (almost plesant), so that knocks out the bitter boletes. So, I think this is right, but I’m not so sure…
Feb. 25, 2007 — Forgot to get back to this one. I took these to the Fungus Fed. meeting in Santa Cruz, and showed them around. All agreed they looked a little weird, but consensus was they were just B. chrysenteron growing short because of dry conditions. But still don’t know about that one either…
