About Lactarius substriatus A.H. Sm.
Public Description (default) [Edit]
When: 2007-02-19
Collection location: Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin Co., California, USA [Click for map]
Who: Darvin DeShazer (darv)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: White latex that stays white until it dries, then slowly turns pale yellow (see last photo of cut gills). Droplets on the gills also turn pale yellow as they dry or when they are a day old. Taste was mild in the field but the chew was short. A day later when it was sampled again, it was bitter within about 10 seconds, then slowly acrid.
