Observation 262743: “Deuteromycota” R.T. Moore
When: 2016-11-12
No herbarium specimen

Notes:
Type: Filamentous fungus
Subtype: Synnematous
Colour on host: Synnemata pale yellow with a dark brown coating at the base overtopped by a capitate, blue-green conidiogenouss area.

Habitat: Decaying bark on damp ground.
Habit: Gregarious, isolated
Effects on Host: Not observed

Mould morphology (as it appears on host): Organism about 0.5-1.0mm long, made of a thick, yellowish-cream or whitish synnematum (=stipe) developing into a rounded to shortly cylindrical greyish blue-green condiomatum

Micro Characters

Fruiting bodies: Phialides(?) on a multi-divaricate branching hypha giving a superficial appearance of a penicillus.
Colour: Greyish blue-green
General morphology: Symmetric terverticillate
Penicillus diameter: 160 – 200 µm (mean: 180 µm)
Penicillus length: 250 – 300 µm (mean: 280 µm)
Branching of conidial heads: Five to six times (four branching elements, metulae, phialides)
Conidiophore colour: Hyaline
Conidiophore thickness: n/a
Conidiophore length: 250 – 300 µm (mean: 280 µm)

Length of ‘Metulae’: 10 – 11.2 (mean 11)
Length of ‘Phialides’: 14.5 – 16 (mean 15)
Phialide shape: Elongate vase-shaped with an acute, somewhat eccentric collarette
Other morphological notes: Conidiophore branches apressed, dense, compact and packed in tight heads.

Conidiospore shape: Lachrymoid, one end rounded and tapering to an opposite pointed end
Conidia colour: Greyish-green
Conidiospore ornamentation: Smooth
Conidiospore length (range): 7.5 – 8.3 µm
Conidiospore width (range): 3.1 – 3.4 µm
Conidiospore size (mean): 7.9 × 3.3 µm
Conidiospore arrangement: Singular
