Public Description (default) [Edit]
When: 2009-09-23
Collection location: Big Thicket, Polk Co., Texas, USA [Click for map]
Who: Ron Pastorino (Ronpast)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Initially I wanted to call these Russula claroflava. Cap size is ok, up to 7.1cm across, and color is yellow, but maybe too goldish. The gills were white, not palish yellow, and I didn’t detect any graying of either the gills or stem.
The stem on these all tapered to the base which seems pretty distinctive.
The spore print was off-white to slightly creamy. The spores were amyloid and ~9 X 7.3 microns, high warts but no strong reticulation. Taste and odor were not distinctive.
