Pileus: 4-4.5cm, convex to plano convex, extremely glutinus cap with glutinus remnants attaching to stipe in strings. Ixocutis approx. 1-2mm thick. Debris on stipe base but not viscid or glutinus at time of collection. Margin even, Disc light brown, coloration uneven bicolorous toward margin gray/cream. Margin smooth. Pileus weakly (span of 48 hours) hygrophorous.

Stipe: 4-7.5cm, 14-15mm width, even, with radicating base. Soil adhearing to bottom 3rd of radicating stipe portion. Concentric appressed squamulose upper half of stipe yellow brown to coffee brown along upper half of stipe. Apex 3mm from lamellea remnants of “cortina” brown ephemeral annulus. Context stuffed with some with small hollow at base. Base lower 5-10mm quickly staining rust brown after bisection. Radicating portion of stipe white with small pubescent hairs adhering substrate to stipe.

Lamellae:Arcuate-subdecurrent, crowded, 2 series,moderately broad, Color: concolorus with cap when young grayish cream, rusty orange brown with age. margin of gill smooth

Odor-Taste:mild to bitter after 20 seconds, odor mildly Phenolic
Spore Deposit: Rusty coffee brown

Substrate: Volcanic cinder, coming from duff of Pinus Radiata, Cupressus lusitanica, Acacia mearnsii, and Rubrus.

Recognized by sight: Would be a first for me in Hawaii, but…mannnnnnn, it kinda looks it cortina, glutinus pileus etc.

plants, animals and fungi, from all over the world!

hard to get a handle on just what is in front of you, sometimes.

I suspect these mushrooms were attached to wood somewhere down below.

Thanks Amanitarita, I’ve been out on these islands so long that I forget about some big old obvious options from temperate realms. Will dig deeper and hopefully scope soon.
