Notes: All white mushroom. Stalk 3/4" thick. Round cap with numerous bumps on cap and stem. Cap is 2 1/2" wide. Unable to see gills.

I don’t know how early in the year…

one may expect to see the SE North American species A. polypyramis as far north as Virginia. But April 15 seems very early to me. So I wondered about proposing this ID.

Seeing the base of the stipe would be helpful. For some types of Amanita the base may need to be carefully extracted form the soil.
