Observation 301028: Amanita murrilliana Singer

When: 2017-12-01

Collection location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA [Click for map]

Who: Logan Wiedenfeld (LoganW)

No specimen available

Notes:
Growing in mixed woods with oak closest. Robust and a bit water-logged, with tacky caps, the suggestion of an ephemeral pv on at least one specimen, faint and shallow striation at the cap margin, and a thick leathery volva on what appears to be a totally elongating stipe.

No telling here. The volva makes me think section Amidella, but the stipe suggests otherwise.

…environmental conditions on the prominence of marginal striations and the variability of the striations in A. murrilliana in other observations on MO, overall. Also, note the longer striations apparent in the last set of photos which are more in line with the typical idea of what A. murrilliana is “supposed” to look like.

I recommend listing other potential names via the ‘proposal box’, it makes it easier for future mycologists to compare suggested discrepancies via MO’s useful search feature.

Regards,

Erlon

I meant to say that the striations should be longer than they appear to be.

…be very long for murrilliana. I’m hoping this material is in the batch that was going to be sent on to me after the GCMS foray.

Very best,
