Alternative Name:

When: 2007-05-05
Collection location:
Pipi Valley, El Dorado Co., California, USA [Click for map]
Who:
Douglas Smith (douglas)
No herbarium specimen
Species Lists:
Spring mushrooms of the Sierras (28)
Notes: Not really B. pinophilus, see the notes for the species name for more info on that. But calling B. pinophilus for now. Oh, one of the hallmarks of this species can be seen in the second photo, they tend to grow in clusters, although obviously not always. I think this is one of the only boletes that grow in clusters?
There were only these tight buttons found up there this weekend, so it wasn’t quite bolete season yet.
Unfortunately, as is usual with the edibles on these forays, the base of these have been trimmed. Actually I often find it hard to even get a photo of good edibles, so I had to make do with these trimmed samples.
