Anmerkungen: Found in a mixed forest in southwest Virginia near Blacksburg, Virginia. I’m hoping that the nature of the gill attachment and their extreme closeness will suggest some direction for identification. While these appeared to be emerging from the ground, its certainly possible that they are saprobic.

Unfortunately, I didn’t do a spore print, but I appreciate your impression of Melanoleuca. I’m new to studying fungi primarily enjoying macro photography over this past year. However, I believe it has a firm hold on me and hopefully I’ll be able to find a reasonable microscope that will help me progress in my identification skills and enjoyment. My first thought is Melanoleuca. I have found similar ones in the past that I have Keyed out as such. The ones I have found had a darker brown umbo though Did you do a spore print? It should be white. This fits the Characteristics of this species. The stalk looks striated with fibers. |
