Summary: attatched

this species is very dense and heavy has no stalk and is attached to oak. Good guess it does look similar. I took it to the San Diego Mycoliogical Society Fungis Fair with me yesterday and Elio Schaechter suggested it was a polyporus but I have not been able to find one that is a match

Summary: It really looks like

a very rain-beaten Albatrellus pescaprae, but that is terrestrial.
Was this unambiguously attached to wood, or was it just really close?

Summary: How about Albatrellus?

Just a suggestion if you’re looking for something that this might be. I have no experience with Live oak at all.
