Observation: Caloscypha fulgens (Pers.) Boud. (3406)

When: 2005-06-09
Collection location: Bassetts, Sierra Co., California, USA [Click for map]
Who: Douglas Smith (douglas)
No herbarium specimen

Species Lists:
Spring mushrooms of the Sierras (28)

Notes: Observation from the “Spring Fungi of the Sierra Nevada”, June 9th, 2005, Yuba Pass region.

Id’ed by me! I found a bunch of these that were thicker and more flat orange, and I asked Dr. Desjardin if they were Aleuria aurantia. He looked at me, and said, why don’t you tell me? So, under the microscope I go, take a look at the asci, and there are the spores. Definately C. fulgens, one of the very very few species I have id’ed by spore size and shape.
