Collection location: Orlando, Florida, USA [Click for map]

No herbarium specimen

An interesting earthstar I haven’t been able to put a name on. I found it on a holiday to Disneyland in a semi-urban area near the hotel.

Recognized by sight: In Mushrooms Demystified, p. 705. Should the specimen be larger than it appears to be (spore mass more than 1.5 inches across) it could also be A. pteridis. A. pteridis usually has more pronounced cracking on the stars underneath, which is actually a variation of a multi-layered peridium, such as on what used to be called Radiigera.
