Summary: Looks like S. ostrea is the better name…

Sorry for the confusion. The listing of S. fasciatum as preferred over S. ostrea was based on a brief comment on Arora’s “Mushrooms Demystified”, 2nd Ed. In particular,

“Other species: S. fasciatum (=S. ostrea, S. lobatum) differs…”

However, the Index Fungorum clearly favors S. ostrea and given that Darvin applied the name as well, I’m guessing he has other references that support this conclusion. I have updated the relevant Names to avoid this confusion in the future.

Summary: Stereum fasciatum

The synonym Stereum ostrea has been deprecated – the current preferred synonym is listed as Stereum fasciatum

Summary: Stereum ostrea

Looks like Stereum ostrea. The new book by Miller & Miller, North American Mushrooms, has a good photo.

Summary: I’d say another Stereum sp.

Pity the underside shot is out of focus. It’s on the pale side for Stereum but I see a hint of orange and they look too thin to be Trametes.
