Notes: Found a few of these, in a nice grouping. I think I’ve heard mentioned now that A. panterina should only show a single clear ring/break point for the universal veil at the base. A. gemmata is similar, but should show a double ring at the base, or partial scales. And A. muscaria, that might have lost its red tones, will have a series of scales at the base in rings. But I’m not sure about this, I’d like to see more clear photos here, before I’ll buy that as a definate feature of the species. In any case, these here do show a nice clear single ring at the bottom of the stipe.
Also this has numerous anatomosing gills (forking single gills into double gills). Is that common in Amanita, or this species? I don’t remember seeing that, but I haven’t really been looking for it. I see it a lot in Russula I know, but I’m looking for any details I can there to divide species.
