‘As if’, it could be anything else. This is a well known Sierran Spring & Summer Dermocybe. Despite rumors to the contrary, it appears undescribed. In fact, we sequenced one collection of it and it came closest to Cortinarius olivaceofuscus (yes(!!), despite it being a deciduous species). In fact in my beginners days I called it just that… I have several more collections down the pipeline to be sequenced — expect more critical data in a month or two.
