Summary: Psilocybe semilanceata

I did some more research and came to the conclusion that this observation is Psilocybe semilanceata. The shape of the cap, annular zone in the middle of the stipe, slight bluing at the stem base and grassland habitat are distinctive features. It is a cold weather species, not common in California but sometimes found north of the bay area.

Summary: Psilocybe silvatica

Psilocybe coprophila has a hemispheric cap and a shorter stipe. This looks like it could be Psilocybe silvatica. It does not look like it turned blue before drying out.

Summary: I’m sure I don’t know…

Sorry man, I just work here… Not sure, I’ve never found Psilocybe before, so it could be anything you want as far as I know. All I know was that this was brought in by Dr. Desjardin, and this is the name he put on it. It kinda disappeared later, like a lot of the mushrooms, so I’ve got no idea, or way to back this up.
Sorry. A lot of stuff disappeared in the clean up and packing of these things.

Summary: section Semilanceatae

This doesn’t look much like Psilocybe coprophila macroscopically. The look of the cap and stem suggest that it is a member of section semilanceatae. Have you looked at the microscopic features yet? Without looking at any books, my guess is P. sierrae or P. fimetaria.
