Summary: I’ve seen

and scoped something just like this, but it never made it into an observation. I think it was a Sierra Nevada Field Campus find. Those characteristic black petals embedded beneath a deep orange, semi-gelatinous apothecium were an instant memory jogger. The asco volume of the Swiss series will have more to say on Cenangium, and perhaps other similar genera.

Summary: Interesting

proposal Danny. Not familiar with this group but looks like a possibility.

Summary: Could it be

something in the Rhytismatales group, those who are covered with a dark crust when they are immature (or dry)?
