Summary: I’m having second thought about my ID
Sarcodontia setosa was the best match I could find. It did smell sweet and there was some reddish staining that you can in the middle of picture. I’m sure it wasn’t an apple tree I found it on. In my picture it looks pretty white but it was more of a cream color which matches the picture and description that Rogers Mushrooms has posted. http://www.rogersmushrooms.com/... I didn’t take note of the tree, but next time I’m out that way I’ll check out what kind it was. It sort of looks like maple bark, but it could be wild cherry. If it’s a maple that would eliminate Sarcodontia setosa.
