Herbarium specimen available
Notes: These 6 specimens were found in a small area and could be labeled Amanita gemmata. They exhibit the lazy ring(“disiannulata”) characteristic but also most had no real distinct volva. I’m posting them to show the rather wide range of macro characteristics, especially the variation in the quantity and location of the universal veil remnants on both the cap and stem. Also the younger specimens showed no striations on the cap while the older ones were fairly distinct.

Summary: looks like breckonii; very nice collection
Striations on the caps edge in amanitas are a variable, not an absolute. It has to do with the thickness of the cap context, which is just one of many size variables that an individual mushroom can show (big small fat thin, etc.). I have even seen a normally always striate mushroom from section vaginata (calyptratoides, if you must know) with absolutely no striations. Go figure.
