Summary: You are right, darv,

the form was a bit stange and non-standard. In addition, the color was much more intense than that of Clathrus ruber that I’m used to see.

Summary: Strange looking

This looks more like a Clathrus with a lattice ball shape that’s deformed or collapsed.
