No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found in small groups and alone in mature mixed coniferous second growth forest of Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, Western Hemlock.

Cap is buff colored and has an obvious ‘nipple’ and a shingled texture.
Looks like it will spore print brown from whitish gills.
Stem is light buff colored and has tiny scales frosting it. No ring that I could find, but not the best weather to collect mushrooms.

Thank you Joshua for the direction on this one. I’m also thinking Inocybe, and specifically Inocybe kauffmanii. Matchmaker says of kauffmanii “cap is subconic, then bellshaped-expanded, umbonate, margin decurved; cream-colored to isabelline; dry, fibrillose-scaly at center, becoming long-rimose toward margin.”

Created: 2007-11-17 12:00:55 By: Joshua Birkebak (Shua) Summary: kauffmanii… Well it does seem to fit Inocybe kaufmanii but I am by no stretch an Inocybe expert… but this definately seems like the most plausible answer at the time… These guys are ridiculously pesky with a microscope not to metion with out… sounds good!
