Observation: Clitocybe avellaneialba Murrill (4945)

When: 2007-11-16
Collection location: Clinton, Whidbey Island, Island Co., Washington, USA [Click for map]
Who: Sam Linse (BearwoodSam)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found in small groups in mature mixed coniferous second growth forest of Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, Western Hemlock.

Cap is brown, mostly flat, with radial fiberous texture, and an incurved edge.

Gills are decurrent, white to cream and not crowded at all. No spore print, but I think it may be cream from the photos.

Stem is like colored and textured as the cap, thick and sturdy and fibrous.

I’m thinking Clitocybe avellaneialba is a good match Joshua. Thanks!

Summary: some kind of clitocybe?

This looks to be a Clitocybe species… looks alot like avellaneialba or maybe a very large clavipes… the later would have a stong grape soda odor… keep me informed… Both of these species are in the genus Ampulloclitocybe acording to the lastest finnish and canadian Clitocybe experts (see http://www.sekj.org/PDF/anb40-free/anb40-213.pdf )
