Notes: on mossy alpine slope

This is an unusual lichen in that the green-algal primary thallus has been reduced to a vestigial ring around the apothecia. Most of the thallus is composed of a semi-continuous mass of cyanobacterial cephalodia. Not very beautiful, but scientifically interesting.
