Notes: Dark brown spored brown mushroom specimen, #3 found at top of Mt Witenberg trail. Cap 4-5cm, brown caps, frayed and scaly with ragged edges, white flesh. Stem 7-8cm tall, .5-1cm thick, brownish but with brown flecks. gills brown, kind of frayed and wavy, close together, gills free to adnexed. Spore print is brown, not light, not too dark but a solid brown like a milk chocolate bar or a little darker when the deposits are thicker.

I keyed these out to coprinaceae and that was a dead-end (these are not inky caps), then to bolbitaceae and that forwarded me to agrocybe which dead-ended and then I keyed it to cortinarius due to what might be cortina bits leaving hairs strands on stalk but then I keyed it to c. biformis and c. dilutus neither of which seem to be on this site!

This is a pretty common mushroom so I imagine I made a wrong-turn somewhere. Suggestions?
