Species Lists:
Mushrooms of CabinCove (40)
Notes: avg-sized mushroom, clump of three in moss at foot of old rotting hemlock log, strong wonderful anise fragrance ST: v tall!, 100×2mm, even, straight, dk brown but appears lighter due to dense whitish puberulence, hollow, v fragile but snaps right back into shape after bending in half(!) CAP: 20-40mm wide, broadly conic, light brown, fading paler FLESH: v thin, fragile (but again not breaking readily) VEIL: none GILL: attached (slightly decurrent?), light brown, close, v shallow SPORE: print whitish? (very scanty if present at all)
This seems most like a Mycena to me, but I can’t find any mention of any mushroom of this stature that smells strongly of anise. Anyone have any ideas?

Summary: white spores
After application of subtle forensic techniques, I was able to determine that the spores were, indeed, white. Or at least whitish, let’s not get carreid away here… (That is, after the paper dried completely, and was held up to a suitably bright light, at an extremely oblique angle. There was in fact a blemish on the paper of an undisputably whitish persuasion.)

Summary: Gymnopus?
The dark stem and the very close and narrow ills really looks alot like a gymnopus to me.. I also can’ say that I know of any Mycenas with a anise odor… their very well may be…
