Mushrooms of CabinCove (40)
Notes: small mushrooms, several in small clusters to scattered on well-rotten damp poplar log (3-4” diameter) ST: 15-20×3-4mm, dark brown, v fine white puberulent near base, v tough and rigid, solid, pale inside, curved CAP: 20-40mm wide, convex but v strongly umbilicate, irreg wavy-contorted, light to dark brown, gen lighter at margin, not viscid even when wet, soft but not v fragile FLESH: light brown, ~1mm thick VEIL: no sign GILL: whitish, distant, slightly decurrent, v conspicuously ragged/toothed SPORE: print pure white
It keys out as Lentinus cochleatus (= Lentinellus c.) in Demystified, but there’s no description, and it doesn’t particularly look like the images I find doing a google image search. Genus is certain, though, due to ragged gill margins.
