Herbarium specimen available
Species Lists:
Mushrooms of Key Largo (39)
Notes: small cup fungi under small hardwood limb ST: central and v short (could be simply narrowing of cap) CAP: 5-25mm wide (I’ve seen larger), broadly cup-shaped, opening downward, tan to brown oustide, d soft short velvety, context darker than hair FLESH: v thin (~0.1-0.2mm thick), v tough and rigid and hard to tear PORE: fertile surface smooth, dark pinkish to vinaceous brown, lighter places, faint whitish bloom or cast to it, often with broad wrinkles or ridges when older SPORE: failed to get print
I’d guessed Plectania, but I see now this is definitely just a tree-ear. Demystified makes some noise about there being several similar species… but then fails to list them or distinguish them! I’ll go with the common one since this one is quite common.
