and many are poorly known.
There are rarely any useful characters in the microscope on these species.
They are mainly characterized by colours, cap structure, taste and smell, sometimes colour changes, and usually habitat.
I’m sure it’s not portentosum, but I have no idea what you could have in Washington in the vicinity of pardinum.

I’ve never id’d either T. portentosum or T. pardinum before. According to Arora, T. pardinum has mealy odor, but these mushroom didn’t have it, even when crushed. (The taste was farinaceous, though.) The caps are not clearly viscid, though there is some debris stuck to them, so I was not sure about this characteristic. It was a wet day when I collected.

There seems to be a difference in spore sizes, which I can try to check when I get a chance. If there is anything else to look, please let me know.

for portentosum. It reminds more of Tricholoma pardinum.
