When you look at those warts at the maximum magnification, they look like ruins at Angkor Wat.

I’m pretty convinced those warts are sitting on mounds of pileus context that have split apart….as in A. magniverrucata.

I begin to wonder if this is an unusual specimen of something else that I know only from specimens with smooth caps. I have to stop speculating about this….

The new picture of zangii from China show a slender elongate bulb not decorated with limbus internus tissue as is the specimen in these images. Also, the partial veil in Dr. Yang’s picture is not well-formed. The margin of the cap in the new zangii picture is decorated with floccose “icicles” of velar material.

It looks like this isn’t zangii.

If this is Amanita zangii it would be new for India. It is a shame that you can’t preserve it. I doubt if it would stay dry even after thorough drying considering how hygroscopic dried material of subsection Vittadiniae can be! I would consider sending pictures to Dr. Zhu-liang Yang. Do you have an email address for him?

This is a very interesting find no matter what it is.

If you can’t dry material perhaps you could obtain a liquid preservative and secure containers for it that could survive shipment to institutional herbaria.

This looks like it may be a species of section Lepidella in one of the few groups in which the universal veil is intimately connected with the context of the pileus. It reminds me very strikingly of the North American species Amanita magniverrucata…except it is on the wrong content and your species seems to have grayish volva.
