Who:
debbie viess (amanitarita)
No herbarium specimen
Notes: This other springtime amanita, the “Western Blusher,” comes in two forms: fat and robust, and slender and delicate. It always reddens with age/handling/and insect activity, regardless of whether it is fat or thin. Normally occurs under coast live oak, mid-winter through spring. One very early novinupta appeared at the MSSF Fungus Fair last December, where it was misidentified as a cokeri (which, according to Rod Tulloss, does not occur here).
