Observation: Cortinarius sp. (7317)

When: 2008-02-06
Collection location: Coastal Monterey Co., California, USA [Click for map]
Who: Ron Pastorino (Ronpast)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: These were found buried under live oak leaves in old Fort Ord. The caps were about 2.8-5.7cm in diameter and slightly viscid. The stems were somewhat club-shaped and cespitose. The rusty-brown spores were elliptical, medium sized and smooth with a small apiculus.
Possible candidates from Mushrooms Demystified included C. triformis and C. bulbosus but not enough information on these to base an identification.
They were brought to the Marin Mushroom Mania event but I don’t believe anyone ventured a specific species ID.
