Notes: Habitat is altered earth zone (old graded surface) planted with some grass and russian olive trees. Gently sloping ground with a high amount of organic debris in the soil some nitrogen fixing clover in vicinity..manure, tree debris etc. The mushrooms are a LOT like a blewit in appearance but wrong color. Margin is strongly incurved. No sign of annular ring or veil. Smell is like mild matsutake crossed with store bought agarics, pleasant mushroomy.
They are almost subterranian in habit. Additional growth habit is appear singularly and in small groups of 2-3. Crowns of the cap just barely visible above the earth. Stem is solid and flesh is firm nice. Mature specimens also appeared to maintain the submerged habit. Observed one as large as 3 inches in diameter. I suspect that they are a tricholoma of some type and am in the process of making a spore print if they will cooperate.

To me I describe the color of the spore print as Cream colored. Or Pinkish Buff

Summary: Cap was viscid
Alan, the cap was slightly viscid, becoming dry after removal from site. Not so much slimy more as moist sticky. I hope to have a picture of a spore print later this day or tomorrow. And that will be the extent of the Herbarium specimen. So if anyone desires to look closer at this please let me know very soon.

I was convinced there were some kind of Clitocybe or Lepista, but after looking at them again they look a lot more like Hygrophorous. That would explain their edibility. Dave, are they slimy?

Re: proposal Rhodocollybia maculata.
Upon looking at the images that google rendered after a search of this specie,
I believe that the Habit of the mushroom that I have photo’d is much less aerial and upright than Rhodocollybia maculata. It’s cap barely breeched the surface of the dirt. Also the gills on my specimen appear to be broader than Rhodocollybia maculata which appear close fine and crowded.
