Notes: These were mild. From comments in Arora this suggests S. rimosus. This seems to be reasonable from the NW key counsil on Sarcodons:
http://www.svims.ca/council/Sarcod.htm
But I want to get these under the scope first to see if this gets any closer. But looking at the key, the difference between these and other brown Sarcodons is not that much here…
5/26/2008 – Getting back to these, with some micro shots.
Micro-shot one is of the spores at 1000x, these are from a “tooth” in Meltzer’s. The spores are, I would say, fairly “nodulose”, but there seems to gradiations of ornamentations for Sarcodon studies.
The second micro-shot here is of tissue from the stipe at 400x in Congo Red. And at the center of the photo here ther e is a clear clamp connection. Looking around other clamp connections were seen.
Some things, these are not S. rimosus. The key council key says that S. rimosus does not have clamp connections, and these guys do. This does suggest S. ustale as suggested by Darvin. But I don’t have a description of these on hand, so I can’t really say what these are.
