Observation: Pseudorhizina californica (Phillips) Harmaja (7923)

When: 1999-07-04
Collection location: Dorst Campground, Kings Canyon National Park [Search]
Who: debbie viess (amanitarita)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Along creekside.

First image is my illustration, which shows the free edge to cap, and the pinkish (subtly so) fluted stipe.

Second image is from Nancy Weber Smith’s book, “A Morel Hunter’s Companion.” Although it is an image of G. sphaerospora, the two mushrooms are quite similar in their gross morphology, and vary primarily in spore shape: californica wth ellipsoid spores, sphaerospora with round.
