Summary: Thanks for your comments

G. spongiosa looks really good.

I am going to suggest the name for now and will update later with KOH reaction.

Summary: With hydroxide(s)

either KOH or ammonia, you can duplicate the green reaction. G. alkalivirens has granular pigment in the lamellar trama and G. semihirtipes has that pigment present only in the stipe trama. Make a mount of the dried material in water to see the pigment granules; add hydroxide and the greening comes. See Mycologia 73: 634-642. 1981. G. spongiosa is a third member of this group. Nice find!

Summary: Should be the same

as this observation, I collected these from the same location a couple weeks prior: http://mushroomobserver.org/91467?q=DMIp

Summary: Could be

G. alkalivirens. It’s the right time of year and the stipe color looks right for it. At least that’s what I remember.
