Summary: probably just a matter of variability.

I have never seen/noticed a yellow-edged annulus in this sp. Doesn’t mean that it sometimes doesn’t occur. The annulus in aprica is fairly ephemeral and easily lost. The YFS photo that you linked to doesn’t show a yellow annulus but merely colored UV remnants at the stipe base.

Still, the aprica photos on the Tulloss site do show it.

Summary: more yellow…

also this one may:

and this one:

also these ones might:
http://www.amanitaceae.org/?Amanita_aprica

could it be a relatively common feature of this species or is there just general confusion around this species (i vaguely remember some lengthy arguments last year on MO)?
I’m not trying to question anyones identifications, I’m just curious about this pattern
:)

Summary: yellow fringed annulus

These also had the yellow edged annulus, also thought to be aprica by christian.

Is this feature characteristic of another species? what else could they be?
cheers
