which extends somewhat into the gleba suggests to me this obs. was parasitized by another fungus. Perhaps something like Pseudoboletus parasiticus. The yellowing of the gleba is something unusual for most Scleroderma.

Many Sclerodermas bruise or change colors when sliced. A close-up of the peridium (outer-shell) would assist in that area.

what species were present down-under. Similar to many Sclerodermas found in U.S., but slightly different too. Where did that chamber near the base come from I wonder? Would be nice to see microscopy too.
