I broke some of the bulb off on that first observation. The material around the edge of the cap and surrounding the mushroom on the ground was very similar in both observations too. They are not in the field guide I have, I am yet to try and key it out.

The bulbs are not abrupt, but they do both widen rather rapidly. Both of yellow-staining on the bulb, but that might be an environmental effect. Interesting. Have you tried any field guides or local keys? Did you just add the photograph of the sectioned mushroom at the bottom of the column of images?

Thanks Rod, I had a good hunt and photos came out well I think. Oh and I remembered to smell most of my finds. This one smelt mushroomy, with a slight unpleasent smell mixed in, kind of acrid and chemically.
