Monospecific = with only one species, meaning within the family Sarcosomataceae, the other Sarcosomas, Plectanias & Pseudoplectanias, and Galiellas belong somewhere else.

This is the type species of the genus. I was told in a personal communication with a mycologist in Italy who works on this genus, that he agreed with Paden and Korf who consider it to be a monospecific genus, at least until good genetic studies are done.

ugly yes but texture awsome, it is fun to play with them
yet so beautiful! Great find! It is in my wish list but as I am never in mature spruce forests in the spring I may never see it. It is very rare and considered endangered in parts of Europe.

i only heard about it in north america from near montreal, maybe near Sept-iles and this station, it probably don’t go much more south and west than that tough (but i would not be surprised it would be present in north ontario.
