Summary: Thanks Dave

I will be keeping my eye on this spot until they are gone. They were not more than 2" high. They can’t do anything without some more rain.

I did not see C. cinnibarius yesterday, but I did find some 1-1/2" to 2" C. lateritus. I felt that with rain in the forecast, it would have been appropriate to wait for them to get bigger. One of the 7 I picked did not have a worm hole, and a couple were pretty wormy, so picking was the right decision. They were good in my morning eggs.

Summary: Size of Cantharellus cinnabarinus sometimes excedes expectations.

Some types of chanterelles potentially grow very slowly, over a relatively long period of time. The C. cinnabarinus that comes up on my property may look like tiny dots for over a week. If favorable conditions eventually come about, then the mushrooms may suddenly expand/develop. If the favorable conditions persist, then overgrown specimens may be expected. I have seen this tendency with each of C. lateritium and C. cinnabarinus.

So, I think this sort of thing will also occur with C. minor.

Summary: The C. minor I find here in PA…

is very small. When a cap is an inch in diameter it’s a big one.

Also, C. minor looks somewhat like a Hygrocybe…. like this obs.

Summary: you will have to look

over by the creek and down the hill a little. It is not exactly where you think it is! The slugs probably already got them.
