Observation: Hericium erinaceus (Bull.) Pers. (9845)

When: 2004-09-05
Collection location: Portland Rose Gardens, Portland, Multnomah Co., OR [Search]
Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found this Hericium erinaceus growing on a Bigleaf maple tree growing about 6 feet off the ground in a wound of where a large branch had once been. Fungus was the largest H.e. I’ve ever seen, easily 10 inches tall and 8 inches wide. This is a closeup of the rather old specimen.
