Comment on Clitocybe sclerotoidea (Morse) H.E. Bigelow (6773)

Created: 2008-02-13 08:34:46

By: Sam Linse (BearwoodSam)

Summary: odor

Comment: Checked the sporing cap for odor and there was none to speak of. Spore print appears to be whitish, will wait for more to fall. Further reading about Clitocybe species in Mushrooms Demystified let me to a very good possibility, Clitocybe sclerotoidea. There are pines in the area and there are a lot of Helvella lacunosa, so many that we called the area Elfin Saddle Way this fall. Also in the third picture you can see some of the sclerotium under the duff, same as shows in other pictures I took the same day. I will go back to dig another bunch to make sure. Comments?
