Comment: The New England flora also mentions C. wainioi; it says it differs from C. furcata in (usually) lacking squamules on the branches, lacking its cortex in older parts of the thallus, and it is K+ yellow instead of K+ dingy brownish (atranorin instead of fumarprotocetraric acid).
