Public Description (default): Notes:Popular mountain in the front range of the San Gabriel Mts of Southern California, looming above Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre. It’s one of the Transverse Ranges, with lush chaparral below approximately 4000’, big cone doug fir above that, with jeffrey pine and incense cedar on top. Oak, bay, ad big-leaf maple forests shade the inner canyons. Lichens start to appear around 4000’, with lovely Letharia colonies on the top. But far better lichenizing can be done on the backside where the northern exposure together with less smog support much livelier lichen communities. Saxicoles are very interesting just over the ridge, along the Rim Trail and along the Mt. Wilson Road.
