Τοποθεσία: White Oak Mountain, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Haywood Co., North Carolina, USA
Σημειώσεις: This is a poorly-visited low mountain/ridge forming part of the eastern boundary of GSMNP. It tops out somewhere around 4500’ at Cow Pen Top. It is all open hardwood forest, probably close to 100 years old. It is close to Cataloochee, which contains some excellent rich oldgrowth and virgin areas. This may account for the relatively rich flora in adjacent regions, such as this mountain and Cabin Cove (on eastern flank of White Oak Mountain). For example, there are several populations of Usnea angulata and many localities for Anzia colpodes throughout this area, the former, especially, being a very strong old-growth indicator, at least in eastern North America where it has been extirpated from upwards of 90% of its range.
